Set on a steeply contoured site, this one-bedroom bach commands expansive sea views. The client’s brief called for the addition of two bedrooms and a secondary living area, expressed through a bold, contemporary architectural language. In response to the site’s gradient, form, and the limitations of the original 1950s structure, the design strategy focused on elevating the existing dwelling rather than building directly above it. This approach enables a new lower level to provide structural stability while maximising usable floor area.

Under the direction of Nick, the bach has been reimagined as a striking coastal home that fully captures its remarkable setting. The design thoughtfully interprets the client’s vision, incorporating layered textures, expressive detailing, and a lush, almost tropical sensibility. The result is a carefully resolved composition that optimises both space and outlook, delivering a refined and visually compelling home.
